Day 6 in Costa Rica

Journal from Nikki Filion:
Today, we woke up early to the rest of the world, but late for us (6 AM) in order to get to our next destination. We drove about two hours to a dock and drove the buses onto a ferry. After a lovely ferry ride with the sun shining bright, it began to pour as soon as we docked at our destination. We had another bus ride afterwards to get to a river where we took boats to an island about ten minutes out. The trip was very very wet. Once we got to the island, the rain let up and the sun came out again. We ate a wonderful lunch prepared by the pastor's wife and daughters. It consisted of rice, beans, and fresh shrimp caught that morning. Afterwards, most people just sat and relaxed, some went on a walk, others lounged in hammocks that is until the rain came down again. Most people came back to the house soaking wet.

Journal from Murray Mullins:
As we left San Jose yesterday morning, everyone had great expectations of what God was going to do on this tiny island somewhere along the Pacific coast. We knew of a large field where our kids (and some who still think they are) could play the locals in a fierce game of futbol (soccer). A lot of other activities were planned, and everyone was eager to see what God was going to do.

On the ferry crossing from Punta Renas to Playa Navango, it began to rain. Fortunately we could board the buses while under cover on the ferry. On our way to the island, however, the rain got harder, much harder!

We got to the landing where we were to get into the canoes, and luckily some of us could access our raingear before being completely drenched. Some of us weren't so lucky!!

After a short walk we arrived at the pastor's house, where we'd all be staying. The sun came out, intense as only a tropical sun can be, and many of us thought, "Glory be to God, we can dry out some!" It wasn't to be! Somewhat unexpectedly the rains returned, and this time with a vengeance. Seeking refuge on the back porch, it became clear that all the plans for outdoor activities were on indefinite hold.

But as it turned out (why are we surprised at what God does?), it was a needed respite. We had the chance to sit back, rest some, write in our journals, perhaps take a quick nap, and just enjoy one another's company.

After a delicious dinner of fresh fish and, or course, rice and beans, we prepared for the evening with the teenagers for the island. And then God took over!!

We played some "get acquainted" games, which broke the ice, and then the serious stuff began. Our youth sang, we shared testimonies, and presented the gospel through the colored beads.

Our island friends listened attentively, and when given the opportunity five of the teens raised their hands to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Bible says that the angels themselves rejoice when one comes into the Kingdom. They were making a fine sound last night!!

In this remote and fairly isolated section of Costa Rica, God's spirit moved, and we were privileged to see it. To God be the glory!!
